Principal's Message for March 14, 2016

Update: Our pacing with school/district requirements and activities is rapidly accelerating. For example, we will have completed the SBUSD Common Formative Assessments and Smarter Balanced Block Interim Assessments for English and mathematics as well as two Living History Exhibit projects (Model and Walk Through the Middle Ages), La Colina and SBCEO Spelling Bee, National Latin Exam, SBCEO Science Fair, Pi Day, and our spring musical, “Hello! My Baby.” To maintain our effectiveness and efficiency, communication will be key. Key communication resources include: meetings, email, phone conferencing, ParentSquare, and the website. Please contact us if you have any questions.

    • English Learner Advisory Committee: (ELAC; meeting 2nd Wednesday, 5:45, library); next meeting is Wednesday, April 13 @ 5:45 in the library.
    • Staff/Special Education Parent Advisory Committee: (SSEPAC; quarterly meetings); next meeting is Tuesday, April 12, 6:00 in the Staff Lounge. For additional information see Ms. Carole Nevarez (assistant principal).
  • Padres Adelante: This is a parent education opportunity focused on opportunity, equity, access, and advocacy in planning a student’s path from elementary school through college. The next meeting is: Monday, March 14, Hope School library at 6:00pm.

HELLO! MY BABY:

La Colina Junior High will perform an upbeat, new-fashioned musical comedy, HELLO! MY BABY on March 17, 18, and 19 at 7:00 p.m. plus a Saturday, March 19 matinee at 2:00 p.m.

HELLO! MY BABY tells the story of a group of “song pluggers” in the early part of the 20th century who lived in the Lower Manhattan neighborhood known as Tin Pan Alley. These “song pluggers” would stand on busy street corners, like Newsies, and convince passersby to purchase their sheet music to take home and play on their pianos. It was the earliest days of pop music.

The visionary behind this upbeat musical is famous Santa Barbara local, Cheri Steinkellner. Tickets will be sold at the door, but are available now using the following link:
