EMLAC

EMERGENT MULTILINGUAL LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (EMLAC)

Each California public school from kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more EML students must form a functional EML Advisory Committee (EMLAC). The EMLAC is a committee for parents and other community members who want to advocate for EML students. The purpose of the EMLAC is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for EMLs. In addition, the EMLAC also advises  the School Site Council (SSC) on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The EMLAC also assists the school on other tasks such as:

  1. The school’s needs assessment.
  2. The school’s annual language census (R-30 LC Report).
  3. Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
